early 2009, Italian hotels are 34,155, with 1 million and 79 thousand rooms, 2 million and 202 000 beds and 1 million 70 thousand baths. Compared to 2008 the supply has increased by 97 hotels, 21,000 rooms, 59 000 21 000 beds and bathrooms, nevertheless, continue to decrease to 2 star hotels (decrease of 296 units, 7400 rooms, 13 7 100 thousand beds and bathrooms) and those with a star (decrease of 339 units, 3900 rooms, 6300 beds 3 400 and bathrooms).
19,400 hotels are small (less than 25 rooms for a total of 521 400 beds), 13 400 are medium sized (between 25 and 99 rooms with a total of 1 million and 194 000 beds ) and a thousand and 316 are large (with over 100 rooms with a total of 486 600 beds).
40.3% of small hotels located in the Trentino-Alto Adige (21.3%), Emilia Romagna (9.8%) and Lombardy (9.2%) 42.8% of medium-sized ones in Emilia Romagna (19.6%), Trentino-Alto Adige (12.7%) and Veneto (10.5%). 36.6% of the large hotels are located in Veneto (14.3%), Lombardy (11.8%) e nel Lazio (10,5).
Rispetto al 2008, i maggiori aumenti di alberghi si sono avuti, nell'ordine, in Puglia (70), nel Lazio (62) e in Sardegna (48) mentre le maggiori diminuzioni si sono avute, nell'ordine, in Emilia-Romagna (70), in Trentino-Alto Adige (47), in Piemonte (31) e in Toscana (30).
Calabria e Sardegna sono le regioni che, nell'ordine, hanno le dimensioni medie più elevate in quanto a camere per esercizio (55 e 47) ed a letti per esercizio (120 e 113).
Nelle località marine e montane si concentra poco meno della metà dell'offerta turistica alberghiera italiana: 48,7% di alberghi, 45,4% di camere, 45,8% di letti e 45,5% di bagni.
Rispetto allo national standard for hotel beds (64) are below the size of the hotels hill (-23), Montana (-21) and lake (-7), while higher than the provincial capitals not elsewhere classified (+33), the cities (+16), the marine (+10) and the thermal (+6).
