1. News about free software in Windows to produce files in PDF / A

In my previous post of 3 March 2010 I discussed at length the characteristics and the production of PDF files / A wide variety of purposes, but Pearl in particular long-term storage of files.

For further information about refer to my previous post, limiting myself to remember that there are two possible levels of compliance of a product file in PDF / A.

• PDF/A-1a = The maximum required by the standard
• PDF/A-1b = The minimum standard required by

For common needs and the appropriate level of compliance PDF/A-1b, level provided by one of the free software that you had then presented : PDF Creator in Version 0.9.8. For

integration of the previous post, I inform you that this software for free and legally installed is now available in the new Reles 0.9.9 with some improvements.

remember the general features of this software:

• type virtual printer software
• Supported operating systems Windows 98, Me, XP, 2000, 2003, Vista, 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
• scripting language of Visual Basic program
• Print Manager using GhostScript
• GPL License (General Public License), which is a free software license lawfully and freely installed

2. Download PDF Creator Version 0.9.9

Per gli appassionati di informatica è possibile operare installando direttamente Ghostscript nella sua ultima versione scaricandolo da:
http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/

Si tratta però di una modalità d'installazione più impegnativa dal punto di vista tecnico, mi permetto di sconsigliarla all’utente comune.

3. Disinstallazione di versioni precedenti  

Se disponete di una vecchia versione precedente di PDF Creator Vi consiglio di effettuare, prima della installazione della nuova versione, la procedura di disinstallazione da pannello di controllo della versione precedente.
Per entrare in Installazione applicazioni :

• Cliccare Start (o Avvio) in basso a destra
• Scegliere Impostazioni
•  Entrare nel Pannello di controllo
• Individuate l'icona Installazione applicazioni e apritela con un doppio clic

Per disinstallare PDF Creator identified in the application list and choose Remove

might want to uninstall another component, since version 0.9.7 , PDFCreator style includes an application toolbar, the PDF Forge Toolbar. 4. Installation PDF Creator 0.9.9

Downloaded the setup file we place on the desktop and launch the installation with Open or Double Clik

Per il comune utilizzatore scegliere Standard , ma nell'utilizzo LAN è possibile anche la scelta Server come stampante di rete, fare la scelta e cliccare Avanti

Passo 5 Scelta della nome da assegnare alla stampante , (di default è PDFCreator), operare la scelta e cliccare Avanti

Step 6 Select the installation folder , (default is C: \\ Program Files \\ PDFCreator), unless there are special needs to keep the default and click Next

Step 7 Choosing whether to install the toolbar Yahoo!

personally do not feel it absolutely necessary and take off the check, it is a toolbar absolutely useless for our purposes, has fonzioni only "advertising", make your selection and click Next

Step 8 Choose whether to install the add-on

Step 9 Choice of connection to Start Menu , if there is no need details keep the default and click Next

Step 11 Summary and start the installation, unless you want to change your choices start the actual installation procedure by clicking Install

5. Using PDF Creator Version 0.9.9

simplify the explanation PDFCreator installs a print subsystem that allows any application that has access to the printer to convert documents to PDF . For example, if you have a Word.doc document, simply open with its program in this case Word , click Print

Select your printer configured virtual PDFCreator and decide where to save the resulting PDF file .

So not only PDF but also PNG, JPEG, TIF, etc. . To create a file in PDF format / A :

Step 3 We complete any information to be attached to the file that will produce as indicated in the screen that appears (author, document date ...), do not change the file name of the first section, indicate the source.

After this step click the Save button at the bottom right corner.

Step 4 On the next screen and establish a folder for the file , the name for the file format and, in cases such as PDF, but it could also be PDF/A-1b , PDF / X and so on.

6. Advanced security and protection of PDF Creator

Another important function of this software is the possibility of applying different levels of security to the PDF file produced.
To apply the various possible protections to the PDF file proceed as follows

Step 1 From the program we are using (Word, Excel, Power Point, dedicated software ...) start printing
Step 2 choose the PDF Creator virtual printer

We complete Step 3 any information to be attached to the file that will produce as indicated in the screen that appears (author, document date ...), do not change the file name of the first section, indicates the source file
Step 4 Before you click Save Options, click the choice and appear la videata seguente

In questa videata possiamo gestire una serie d'opzioni per i vari tipi di file. Se scegliamo il formato PDF potremo proteggere il file mediante crittografia, inoltre impostare una password a nostra scelta sia per aprire che per modificare il documento.
E' anche possibile definere una serie di limitazioni alla gestione del documento quali:

• Negata la stampa, e possibile solo la visualizzazione a video
• Divieto di copia di testo e immagini
• Divieti di vario livello nella modifica del documento

A word of warning: the popularity of PDFCreator, obtained through word of mouth has prompted software companies to deceive the people trying the open source version of PDFCreator directing them towards its commercial version, using names from the same pronunciation of "PDFCreator "which are identified by search engines.
